This past Saturday I shot the mt. bike leg of a local sports event that put bouldering, running, mt. biking, and paragliding at the same venue, our beloved “town hill” Snow King.
A great day of competition and fun, organized by Christian Beckwith of Outerlocal, and presented by Outdoor Research.
My friend Joel Ahlum designed the mt. bike course with help from local racer Carey Smith who was in Sun Valley this weekend racing at the USA Cycling MTB Cross-Country Nationals.
Joel is cycling guru at Hoback Sports and heads up their racing team.
This was his first course to design, and the pro cyclists I talked to all agreed, it was not an easy course.
At 3.66 miles and 955 feet of climbing on sometimes rocky, sometimes loose, and dry trails, I can see why they agreed, the pros did 3 laps.

Pro division/womens winner Amanda Carey.
Pro division/mens winner Ben Aufderheide.
